Importing an IDF file

Location: Multiple Workspaces - Import

Related Topics: IFC Import, gbxml Import

The following outlines the process for importing an IDF file, which can be done from multiple workspaces including Site, Building, Systems, Libraries and Templates tabs.

Tip: Importing an IDF and IFC model are similar, however importing a DWG/DXF file is handled differently.  To import a DWG/DXF to use as an underlay to create geometry or for a reference use the DWG/DXF button on the 2d view within any of the workspaces where it is displayed.

Step 1: Select Import from the ribbon to access the Import Workspace

Step 2: Browse to locate the desired IDF file.  In this example we are importing one of the sample IDF files that are packaged with Simergy.

Step 3: Select Import Design Data to enable the initial preview of the IDF model.

The user can now "visually" review the model, and can also use the project component tree to select the building floors to review the import properties displayed in the table below.

Note: Since the full geometry characterization is not in the IDF file, so that the detailed building geometry can be created in Simergy, the specific space boundaries and openings are displayed.

Step 4:  To complete the Import Process select Copy to E+ Project Model

Step 5:  The IDF Import process is complete.  The user can tell that the process has been completed when the information related to the IDF file appears on the Active Project Model Tree.  Look at the difference in the information present for the image associated with Step 4 and the one below.

Note: The IDF file has now been imported into Simergy, however it hasn’t been saved yet.  Select File Save.
