Source Library Content

Three Source Libraries are included in Simergy when the program is installed.  The Source Libraries  contain data from a number of resources that provide the user access to a range of relevant reference information that can significantly reduce the time to set up inputs for a Building Energy Model (BEM) within Simergy.  Each Source Library can contain content for Template and Libraries categories, which can allow users to store and manage content in multiple ways.

Tip: It is important to know and understand what information is available within the Source Libraries and how it can be accessed.  The Library infrastructure in Simergy is a powerful one, but it takes some getting used to to be leveraged effectively.

Tip: Initially it is recommended that the user input Library content into one Source Library until they get more comfortable with when the Source Library can be changed and how that influences what content can be selected across different sets of commands and how the selections will or will not be displayed.

Default Source Libraries

The dialog box shown above is accessed by selecting File/Options.  By default it will contain the following Source Libraries, which are typically located at C:\Users\Public\Simergy\LibrariesAndTemplates\... when the program is installed:

As soon as a user opens and starts working with a BEM a new Source Library is generated, the Project Model Source Library

Library.siml

This is the default source library for Simergy.  For example, if there are component types that are included in the ASHRAE__90.1.siml source library, they will also be included in this Library.  The intent is to provide the user a one-stop shop

T24 Library.siml

This library contains the data used for checking compliance of the building model for compliance to the California Energy Code (Title 24 – 2013).

TemplateEmptyLibrary.siml

This library is empty and is meant to serve as a template for all user-created libraries.  The intent is to have users copy this library, rename it and fill it with any templates and library entries they'd like- either user-created or copied from another library.

Project Model.siml

Once the user starts assigning library entries to the Simergy BEM from different source libraries they are saved to the Project Model Source Library, which is another option for Source Library that can be selected from the drop down list.  If changes are made to the library entries and/or templates that have been assigned to the Simergy BEM, those changes are saved into the Project Model Source Library versus the original source library.  Therefore the instance changes that may be unique to the project are captured in the Project Model library, while the Source Libraries remain unchanged.  In some cases the user can save changes or new library entries back to the source library, but typically the main workspaces where this can be done are the Libraries and Templates workspaces.

Note:  The Project Model source library is not an option for selection in the File/Options/Library-Template Preferences since the Project Model is associated with each Simergy BEM.
