The roof tab contains tools to change the typical flat roof to either a Gable or Hip roof. Currently, these sloped roofs can only be applied to buildings with pre-defined shapes (not free-form). Sloped roofs may also only be applied to the top building story, any other roofs exposed by a smaller building story on top of a larger story will be flat.
These two images show the two types of sloped roofs available on an L-shaped building. A sloped roof can be applied during building story creation, or after creation by selecting the Roof Story in the Project Tree.
The save feature as found on the Geometry tab, which starts the process of creating geometry by selecting New.
Note: The user can start to create geometry without selecting New, however they will reach a point where they cannot go further and will have to start over by selecting New.
The user can click Cancel to undo any changes made to a new or existing building story.
Once the user feels the input selections are acceptable they can select Save to incorporate the geometry and glazing design into the BEM. At this point the geometry has been incorporated into the model, but the overall Simergy model file has not been saved.
Note: The user can edit the all or a portion of the geometry.
The user can select previously developed geometry and select Delete to remove it from the BEM.
This is where the type of roof is selected. Options are Flat, Hip or Gable.
The slope of the roof (if Hip or Gable is selected) is changed here by entering the "Rise" value for the simple "Rise over Run" formula (Rise stays constant). The angle of the roof is also displayed.
Tip: This setting is disabled if Flat roof is selected.
The Overhang value is the distance from the exterior walls that the edge of the roof hangs.

The "thickness" of the roof assembly at the edge of the roof.
Tip: This setting is disabled if Flat roof is selected.

To change the configuration of the roof, you will need to go to the Roof Tab. There are two ways to get there:
The first is by clicking the Roof tab in the Create/Edit Buildings Workspace
The roof tab will also let you change from a sloped roof back to a flat roof.
Be sure to get acquainted with all the properties this workspaces allows you to edit.
